Game Theory/Prisoner's Dilemma

Nash equilibrium- In game theory, it is a solution of a non-cooperative game of two or more players, each player must know the equilibrium strategies of their opponent / learning the opponent’s strategy

Game theory- The mathematical outcomes of different game situations where one participants decision greatly depends on the actions of another participant

Prisoner dilemma- A situation in which two people or participants have to make a decision based on two outcomes that is greatly affected by the other person’s decision

Game Strategy

The strategy that the computer uses is based on my move. If I agree to cooperate, Serendip will cooperate the entire time. However, if I choose to not cooperate, the computer will not cooperate until I decide to cooperate once again. It’s interesting to see how the computer reacts to what my strategy of the game is.

Give an example of Game Theory/prisoner dilemma

In history: Cuban Missile Crisis- deciding the consequences of sending missiles at other countries
In Government: OPEC oil prices- deciding how high or low to set oil prices depending on how much money one country could make compared to another country
In economics: Stores undercutting or setting similar prices on items
related to sociology: Making decisions that affect you and others around you, breaking up with a girlfriend or boyfriend
related to psychology: Making emotional decisions, helps you to know if you are a risk-taker or if you are conservative
In your everyday life: Whether or not to eat before track practice, weighing the consequences of starving or getting sick

Tell me your thoughts on the oil pricing activity and the other group activities we did in class.
- I thought it was very interesting and it really showed how game theory and prisoner’s dilemma comes into play in real-life situation.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being great rate the activities we have done in class with the unit.  What are some things that can be done to improve the overall unit?

  • I liked it best when we played the oil pricing game without knowing the other team’s score, overall I thought the unit was the best one yet and was very interesting.

Rorschach Inkblot Test

I thought that the inkblot test that we did was very interesting in many different aspects. It was interesting to see how I personally answered and how others answered to different images. Everyone interprets things differently, and it was cool to see how other people saw the images differently that what I did. On most of the images my responses were normal, however, on a few I had answers that no one else had seen on their own. I don’t think that all of the answers that the sight gave are the only right answers. Just because you see something different than what others see doesn’t necessarily mean you’re schizophrenic or paranoid. On the other hand, seeing certain images may suggest the fact that someone is schizophrenic or paranoid, however, not in all cases.

I think that these tests could be very helpful for psychologists that are trying to help out a patient. Often the patient might see something based off of what they are experiencing in their life or what is going on around them. For example if the patient is going through tough times, they may see more horrifying or negative images. For the majority of the time, I think that these tests would give a pretty accurate representation of how a person is feeling or thinking.
